The new, Doug Liman-directed film gives the story a modern update, with Gyllenhaal playing a former UFC fighter who takes over security for a bar in the Florida Keys. Gyllenhaal stars in the 2024 Road House as Dalton, a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer at a seedy roadhouse in the Florida Keys.
Real-life UFC champ Conor McGregor makes his movie debut as unhinged hitman Knox, who hopes to take out Dalton. The 35-year-old fighter makes a cheeky entrance, baring his nude backside. Patrick Swayze, Gyllenhaal’s “Donnie Darko” castmate, originated the role of the infamous bouncer Dalton, who is enlisted by the owner of the unbelievably raucous Double Deuce to temper its violent crowd. The remake directed by Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”) arrives Thursday on Prime Video. “Part of what makes this really fun to watch is that it doesn't take itself seriously, really at all, and it always lilts on the edge of, like, absurd,” says Jake Gyllenhaal, who leads the action-packed reimagining of the 1989 movie.

Gyllenhaal, 42 will play the lead, Dalton, in the 1989 remake of Road House as a former UFC fighter who accepts a job as a bouncer. The role required some considerable hard graft in the gym with his trainer, Jason Walsh. Jake Gyllenhaal caused a stir recently by stepping into the UFC octagon to film his upcoming movie, Road House. But the reaction of spectators wasn't in regard to his acting skills, but moreso his leaner, MMA fighter physique. Troubled former UFC middleweight fighter Elwood Dalton makes a living scamming fighters on the underground circuit.
Saturday night, more filming for the "Road House" remake took place using the crowd in attendance for UFC 285, with Gyllenhaal jumping into the octagon to "fight" Hieron. He won the staged bout with a flying knee, fighting off the ref (MMA referee Chris Tognoni) to continue delivering blows to his fallen opponent. Gyllenhaal, who showed off a ripped physique as he also filmed a scene at Friday’s UFC 285 ceremonial weigh-ins, won the faux fight with a flying knee.
The action may have been staged, but Gyllenhaal and Hieron definitely made their fight look like the real deal, throwing punches and knocking each other down in the cage, all in front of the real-life UFC crowd. Nevertheless, according to the T-Mobile Arena website, this welterweight encounter is arguably the hottest fight of the summer. Along with Gyllenhaal, 43, Presumed Innocent stars Ruth Negga as Gyllenhaal's wife, Renate Reinsve as his mistress, along with Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard and O-T Fagbenle. "I can’t stop thinking about her," he says of Carolyn, his mistress, before scenes flash of police cars and a crime scene.
"I think there's an essential part of Dalton that I loved, and it was definitely a characteristic, a personality trait that Patrick had in spades, which is this sort of quiet patience," Gyllenhaal told Total Film. "Well, it was important from the very beginning that we have the UFC involved because obviously my character was written as a character who was an ex UFC fighter and it was just essential to it." Gyllenhaal echoes that the promotion's involvement in 'Road House' was crucial to his character Dalton's backstory and introduction into the film. On average, the Road House actor would reportedly eat six or seven meals per day, every three hours or so, focusing on carbs in the morning to fuel his workouts before shifting to higher protein in the afternoons and evenings to build and repair his muscle. In a separate interview, Gyllenhaal revealed what an average day in the gym would like. Gyllenhaal appeared on The Howard Stern Show before the film's release where he revealed the insane amount of exercise he was putting in to look like an Adonis.
